Brothers Matthew and Michael Rowney have teamed with actor Patrick Bergin to encourage more filmmaking opportunities in  the South of England.

Patrick joined the brothers’ most recent short film earlier this month. He is best known for starring opposite Julia Roberts in Sleeping with the Enemy and Harrison Ford in Patriot Games,.

He will now appear in ‘Odilo Fabian or (The Possibility of Impossible Dreams)‘, which is due to enter the festival circuit later this year.

The cast of the fantasy film already includes Sussex actors Hugh Bonneville (Paddington 2) and Isabelle Allen (Netflix’s SAFE). Kacey Ainsworth (Call the Midwife) also stars.

Luke Brandon-Field plays the titular role of Odilo Fabian, and will next be seen in Jojo Rabbit with Scarlett Johansson.

“It was great working with such talented and enthusiastic filmmakers,” said Patrick, who lives in Newhaven. “The storyline is different and intriguing. It bodes very well for my hope of developing a strong film community in the local area.”

The brothers filmed the majority of Odilo Fabian in Borde Hill Gardens, Haywards Heath.

Matthew, who directed the film, added: “Sussex has been a brilliant backdrop for us – many filmmakers pay money to create the kind of locations we have on our doorstep. Working with Patrick was a fantastic experience and I’m excited to continue building a film network in this part of England.”

Michael, who has won several international awards for his Odilo Fabian script, added: “We can’t wait to bring our little film to audiences. Sussex has a rich cinematic history dating back to the silent film era and we think it’s high time some of that spirit is revived.”

Odilo Fabian tells the story of an optimist on the outskirts of a town called Doubt, who uses wishes to grow himself a real chance at Love.
